Caves of Via Bacco

Via Bacco, San Gregorio Magno

Posizione

The cellar caves, collected in a single stretch of road to which the name of Via Bacco was given, are a very important heritage of the tradition of San Gregorio Magno as ancient masterpieces of rural engineering.

Dug into the rock and with a masonry facade, in fact, these caves allow the natural and optimal preservation of fine wines and typical products according to ancient customs, making the country known all over the world for its excellent food and wine.

The caves of Via Bacco, generally closed to the public, are opened on the occasion of the famous and suggestive local event of the “Baccanalia”, during which it is possible to immerse oneself in the history of the territory with traditional dances and songs and taste the excellent Cilento wine accompanied by typical products of high quality such as soppressata, sausage, ham, capocollo, pecorino cheese and mountain potatoes.
