San Zaccaria Tower
San Gregorio Magno
Posizione
The site of San Zaccaria was chosen for the foundation of the monastic center because it met the physical requirements of isolation (in fact it is located on a spur of limestone rock at 480 m above sea level on the slopes of the north side of the mountain range consisting of the Cornito (744 m above sea level), Diacons (845 m above sea level) and Sciamarro (855 m above sea level) mountains.
The Pantano plain is a tectonic depression surrounded by a mountain ridge. The monastery of San Zaccaria was the center of the hermitages distributed on the slopes of the mountain crown of the Pantano that from the Platano river extends to the current town of San Gregorio Magno.
